WATERTOWN, Wis. – The Eagles of Edgewood knocked off Maranatha 13-3 and 14-3 Tuesday night dropping Maranatha to 1-9.
Junior pitcher Derek Funkhouser (Paris, Ill.) held Edgewood scoreless through four innings in the first game, before the Eagles hauled off four runs off five hits.
It was junior third baseman Garett Ordway (Pensacola, Fla.) who drove in the first run in the fifth inning on an RBI single.
The Crusaders were down 8-3 headed into the ninth inning before Edgewood scored five runs to put Maranatha away for good.
Funkhouser (0-2) pitched six innings, allowing nine hits and striking out four batters.
Junior infielder Jason Garrison (Watertown, Wis.) was 3-4 and sophomore Tim Shelp (Independence, Mo.) went 2-4 from the plate.
In game two, the Eagles scored three runs in the third inning and held a 9-0 lead before first baseman Chris Von Holt and outfielder Drew Horner (Napoleon, Ohio) each had RBI singles, cutting the deficit to 9-2.
Edgewood scored five more runs in the seventh, putting the game out of reach, in spite of a Crusader push to extend the game past seven innings.
Junior pitcher Nathan Lyle (Oregon, Wis.) pitched all seven innings, allowing 15 hits and 14 runs for the loss.
Ordway and Borchardt each went 2-4 from the plate.
Maranatha faces North Central on Thursday, April 5 at 3:00 p.m. in a seven-inning doubleheader.
