MEQUON – The softball season opened up Northern Athletics Conference play against the Concordia Wisconsin Falcons on Tuesday, losing 10-0 in game one and 8-0 in game two.

The Falcons were ranked #3 in the Preseason Coaches’ Poll, behind #2 Aurora and #1 Benedictine, quickly proving why in a five-run fourth inning, while also holding Maranatha to two total hits.

Junior catcher Sadie Joutras (Crest Hill, Ill.) and sophomore pitcher Rachel Ryan (Nampa, Idaho) each went 1-2, while Ryan pitched four innings for the loss, to drop to 2-2.

Concordia’s Jamie Schuh stifled the Crusaders in game two with a no-hitter in five innings pitched, striking out 11 in the process.

Freshman Jana Dempsey (Bath, Mich.) pitched four innings, allowing seven hits and a strikeout for a 2-2 record.

The Crusaders move on to face Lakeland College at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 30.
