Scholarships for Current Students


Aquila and Priscilla Scholarship

The Aquila and Priscilla Scholarship was established by individuals who have a heart for full-time ministries related to education. The scholarship has been created to assist a student during his or her semester of student teaching. The recipient must exhibit good Christian character, be active in Christian service through a local church, and have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher.


Basso Family Scholarship

The Basso Family Scholarship is to assist students who have worked to pay their way through college. The student must be headed for full-time ministry as a pastor, evangelist, missionary or Christian school teacher. The recipient must have completed his or her sophomore year having a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.


Biblical Studies Honor Scholarship

A Christian family, in honor of their mother who supported Maranatha throughout her life, anonymously established the Biblical Studies Honor Scholarship. This scholarship is given to a student majoring in Biblical Studies, Biblical Counseling, Evangelism, or Pastoral Studies who exhibits godly character and a heart for ministry. The recipient must have completed his or her sophomore year having a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.


Business Department Scholarship

This scholarship encourages young people preparing to serve the Lord in business and to challenge other successful business professionals to do the same. It is awarded to a Business major entering his or her junior or senior year who exhibits good Christian character and is active in Christian service through a local church and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.


Cedarholm Alumni Scholarship

This scholarship has been established by friends and family in loving memory of Dr. and Mrs. B. Myron Cedarholm, who were used of God in the founding of Maranatha in the fall of 1968. Current students who are children of alumni and have a major in the Bible and Church Ministries Department, Music Department, or Teacher Education Department may apply for this scholarship.


Christina Hargrove Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship has been established by the mother- and father-in-law of Christina “Tina” Hargrove, who went to be with the Lord in 2002. Tina was the nurse coordinator for the Head and Neck Cancer Department at the Josephine Ford Cancer Center and Henry Ford’s Department of Otolaryngology in Detroit, Michigan. This scholarship is awarded each year to a student who has been accepted into the nursing program at Maranatha and demonstrates a desire to serve the Lord through nursing.


Creative Writing Contest

The mission of Maranatha is to develop leaders for ministry in the local church and the world “To the Praise of His Glory.” Part of developing such leaders is to encourage the use of creativity and imagination. A creative writing contest is being offered to any Maranatha student who wishes to develop and share their creative imagination.

Elbert M. Dean Memorial Scholarship

The Elbert M. Dean Memorial Scholarship was established to assist students preparing to serve the Lord in foreign missions. The recipient must be enrolled in a Missions or Humanities: Cross-Cultural Studies major and demonstrate a calling, commitment, and aptitude to serve in foreign missions. The recipient must be entering his/her junior or senior year and maintain a GPA of 2.5 or above.


Ellis Memorial Scholarship

Mr. and Mrs. Richard G. Ellis of Rockford, IL, had a strong interest in training the next generation of Christian leaders. The Richard G. Ellis Memorial Scholarship provides an annual award to returning, hard-working Maranatha students who seek to serve the Lord full-time in church-related ministries and have a financial need.


Elmer F. Brown, Jr. Memorial Music Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a student with a music major who exhibits good Christain character and is active in Christian service. The student must demonstrate a sincere love for Christ, desire to uphold Godly, conservative music standards, and demonstrate excellence in his/her music practice and performance. The recipient must be entering his/her junior or senior year and maintain a GPA of 2.5 or above.


Farrington Family Scholarship

Pastor David Farrington went to be with the Lord on November 7, 1992. He served as pastor of eight churches and as pastor/administrator for two nursing homes. The purpose of the Dr. David H. Farrington Memorial Scholarship is to provide an annual scholarship to a returning male or female Maranatha student entering their junior or senior year who demonstrates a special interest in caring for either senior adults or children and youth and intends to pursue a ministry in either of these areas.


Fine Arts Music Scholarship

A Christian family, in honor of their mother who supported Maranatha throughout her life, anonymously established this scholarship. It is given to a Fine Arts music major who exhibits godly character and a heart for ministry.


Helen Steinhaus Memorial Scholarship

Roland (Dick) Steinhaus, together with family and friends, has established this scholarship in memory of his wife, Helen Steinhaus, who went to be with the Lord on September 12, 2012. Helen was a humble, godly lady who supported her husband in his pastoral ministry, raised three children who are serving the Lord, and was an encourager and example to many in the churches where she served. Two of their children graduated from Maranatha and another attended Maranatha for a year. This scholarship is awarded to a Pastoral Studies major who has clearly stated his intention of serving God as a pastor. The student must have completed his sophomore year, have a minimum 2.5 GPA, and exhibit godly character.


Hope Pfeiffer Memorial Scholarship

The Hope Pfeiffer Memorial Scholarship has been established in memory of Hope Pfeiffer who went to be with the Lord on July 5, 2004. Hope had a music minor while she was a student at Maranatha. The scholarship is intended to assist a young lady who is a music major or minor and has demonstrated a commitment to being involved in full time ministry by using teaching or performance skills in a local church or Christian school. The student must have completed her sophomore year, have a minimum GPA of 2.25, and exhibit godly character.


Jonathan Leber Memorial Scholarship

John and Kathy Leber, together with friends, have established this scholarship in memory of their son, Jonathan, who went to be with the Lord on April 26, 2005. Jon was a Biblical Studies major at Maranatha who earned his pilot’s license in 2004 and was affectionately known as “Ace.” He was preparing to serve the Lord as a missionary pilot in the jungles of South America. This scholarship is awarded to a student who has a major or minor in Missions or Missions Aviation and has clearly stated his or her intention of serving God on the mission field.


Jude 22 Scholarship

The Jude 22 Scholarship was established to financially assist a college student in the Nursing program. The student must be preparing to serve the Lord as a nurse and reflect the qualities found in Jude 22, “and of some have compassion, making a difference.” The recipient must be entering his/her senior year and maintain a GPA of 3.0.


Lee Jason Krueger Memorial Scholarship

Loren and Lila Krueger have established this scholarship in memory of their son, Lee, who was a student at Pillsbury Baptist Bible College and the University of Wisconsin. His desire was to become a business manager at a Bible College. His wife, Tricia (Buhrow) Krueger, is a graduate of Maranatha. After a battle with cancer which lasted more than four years, Lee went home to be with the Lord on July 7, 1999. This scholarship is awarded to a student who is enrolled in an education major, entering their junior or senior year, planning to serve the Lord as a Christian school teacher.


Marilyn Hilsen Weniger Memorial Scholarship

The Marilyn Hilsen Weniger Memorial Scholarship is awarded in memory of Marilyn Hilsen Weniger. She was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1968 and was called home to be with the Lord on June 20, 1992. This scholarship is presented to students who, like Marilyn Weniger, have faithfully and consistently trusted the Lord to meet their needs while going through trials, sickness, adversity, or hardship. The recipient must evidence an exemplary Christian testimony in working, serving, and ministering while continuing his or her education.

Mary Robinson Memorial Scholarship

The Mary Robinson Memorial Scholarship was awarded in loving memory of Mrs. Mary Robinson by family and friends following her homegoing on April 25, 1999. Mrs. Robinson was a faithful soulwinner who participated in door-to-door evangelism every week for more than 40 years. Her love for souls is evident in reading her personal journal, where she recorded the name of every individual she was privileged to see saved. This scholarship is designed to encourage students who have a major or minor in missions and clearly evidence a desire to reach souls on a foreign mission field.


Psalm 78:4 Scholarship

The Psalm 78:4 Scholarship was established to financially assist a college student in the Teacher Education program. The student must be preparing to serve the Lord as a teacher in a Christian school, “shewing to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.” The recipient must be entering his/her junior or senior year and maintain a GPA of 3.0.


Robert Hanneman Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is given in loving memory of Dr. Robert Hanneman who served 12 years as a member of Maranatha’s Board of Trustees. Dr. Hanneman was employed by the USDA in its agricultural research service and received an appointment as a research geneticist, training students for more than 30 years at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. This scholarship has been established to help a junior or senior who has made a commitment to making Bible-based science a significant part of his or her ministry.


Russell Family Memorial Scholarship

The Russell Family Scholarship is to assist students from a single-parent home pursuing a nursing or full-time ministry degree. The recipient must be entering his or her junior or senior year having a minimum 3.0 GPA.


Ruth E. V. Hey Memorial

Mrs. Ruth Hey of Sterling, Illinois, loved music and served the Lord teaching, directing choirs, singing and composing. Six of her grandchildren attended Maranatha, and she gave the college its first concert grand piano prior to her death on August 9, 1976. Mrs. Hey was also instrumental in starting Faith Baptist Christian School of Sterling. The purpose of the Ruth E.V. Hey Memorial Scholarship is to assist Maranatha students preparing to serve the Lord in sacred music.


Schlichting Family Scholarship

The Schlichting Family Memorial Scholarship has been established by the generous gifts of Eugene Schlichting, who went home to be with the Lord on December 31, 2012. The scholarship is to assist students enrolled in a Business Department major, who plan to serve the Lord in business. The recipient must be entering his/her sophomore, junior, or senior year and maintain a GPA of 2.75.


Science Ministries Scholarship

This scholarship has been provided by friends of Maranatha with an interest in encouraging young people preparing to enter a field of science or science education and who plan to use this field as an area of service for the Lord. It is awarded to a returning student entering the junior or senior year who has made a genuine commitment to making Bible-based science a significant part of his or her ministry. Must be a science education major or a science minor.


Stoltenberg Scholarship

Dr. Michael Stoltenberg is a man who loves the Lord and loves Maranatha. He has provided for this scholarship to be awarded to a full-time student preparing for a preaching ministry. This student must have been recommended by a professor or department head. If the recipient maintains eligibility for this award during the following school year, he will receive a second-year scholarship in the same amount.


UW Health Partners Scholarship

UW Health Partners provides this scholarship to encourage students to pursue the nursing profession. UW Health Partners works in conjunction with Maranatha in training students enrolled in the nursing program. The scholarship is awarded to students who have been accepted to Maranatha’s nursing program and have demonstrated significant desire to serve the Lord through nursing.


Westra Scholarship

A Christian-owned and operated business committed to annually putting a portion of its earnings back into Christian ministry established this scholarship. It is given to business majors who have displayed godly Christian character and have been active in Christian service in a local church.


William Packer Jr. Memorial

One of Maranatha’s goals is to produce the next generation of preachers. We wish to honor three young men who deserve special recognition for their skill in handling and preaching the Word of God. These Biblical Studies or Church Ministries students are chosen by the Bible faculty to preach the Word from our regular chapel platform and will receive a gift certificate for study books in memory of an alumnus, William Packer Jr.
