Gjefle Notches Two Wins At MSOE Invitational

Jesse GjefleMILWAUKEE, Wis. – Low numbers were not enough to dampen the spirits of the wrestling team, which saw senior Jesse Gjefle (Ontario, Wis.) post two wins and three losses.

Maranatha was without top wrestlers Ricky and James Warren but Gjefle came away with wins over MSOE and UW-Oshkosh in the 184 weight-class and garnered praise from coach Andy Peterson,

“Jesse has improved steadily each tournament and it’s encouraging to see him do this well, especially when he never had wrestling experience prior to college.”

In a match against MSOE’s Dylan Allison, Gjefle won by a 10-8 decision.

Maranatha had two additional wrestlers, freshman Zach Zimmerman (Owosso, Mich.) in the 133 weight-class, and newcomer Oliver Klein (Alexandria, Va.) on Saturday, as Zimmerman had five matches and Klein wrestled four in his Maranatha debut in the 157 weight class.

“Zach and Oliver had matches that were very close but couldn’t finish it in the end. It has been – lot of fun to see the stuff they practice on show up in the match. We’re still wrestling in the best region in the country and we’ve shown continual improvement,” Peterson stated.
Maranatha moves on to the Al Hanke Invitational in Elmhurst, Ill. next Saturday, January 12 at 9:00 a.m.
