Lady Crusaders Soar over Blue Angels

WATERTOWN, WI – It was a short night in Watertown on Thursday as the Crusaders quickly won three straight games to defeat the Mt. Mary Blue Angels 3-0 in Maranatha’s home opener.  “We had a great fan crowd for our home debut tonight,” remarks Coach Regina DeLozier after the game. “All of my players were able to get in tonight; I even had three freshmen in the game at one point.” The Crusaders early dominance propelled them to a 25-9 first set win, overpowering the Blue Angels with consistent serving and well-placed kills.

“We were very balanced in our attack tonight,” states DeLozier. “Our starters were able to really dominate the game from the beginning, allowing us to get our younger players out on the court for some experience in this loud environment.” The raucous, Crusader faithful turned out in droves Thursday evening to help motivate the ladies to victory in all three sets.

Led by senior Laci Peterson (Chillicothe, IL) with 11 kills and a .333 HP%, the Lady Crusaders cruised to a 25-15 second set victory over the Mt. Mary squad. Adding valuable minutes to the match were impact players Kelli Fox (So, Matthews, NC) with 3 kills and 5 digs, and libero Sam Swiatek (So, Walled Lake, MI) with 12 digs. The Crusaders easily overpowered in the third set, winning 25-13. “I was very pleased with our effort and energy tonight. We came out strong and really were able to dictate the flow of the game,” remarks DeLozier.

The Crusaders will travel to Milwaukee on Saturday (14th) to participate in an MSOE quad, where they will face former NAC conference foes Marian University at 10 a.m., followed by MSOE at 12 p.m.
