MILWAUKEE, WI – The Maranatha softball team took it to the Mount Mary Blue Angels, pounding their opponent 24-1 in game one, while sealing game two in come from behind fashion, with four runs in the top of the sixth, to deliver their third and fourth wins of the season.

Sophomore infielder Emily Boogher (York, PA) ignited the team with three doubles in the first game, and was a perfect 4-4 with four RBI’s, and the team finished with a whopping 18 hits and 18 RBI’s.

Senior pitcher Rosa Lewis (Yates City, IL) nearly pitched a scoreless game, allowing just one run on one hit, and struck out four in five complete innings, en route to her third win of the season.

Maranatha exploded for 10 runs in a big third inning in which Boogher and junior outfielder Emily Thompson (Watertown, WI) doubled back to back, and the team batted through the lineup with eight hits.

The Crusaders followed up the third inning by pounding out six runs in the fourth, as freshman Randi Jaqua (South Bend, IN) got in on the action with an RBI single to score Thompson.

After Boogher’s third double of the game, Lewis singled up the middle to drive in the team’s last two runs, in a game that lasted five innings.
Thompson finished 3-5 with four runs, while Jaqua, and Lewis each went 2-4, the latter of the two piling up four RBI’s.

Maranatha won game two in a different fashion, waiting until the second to last at-bat, and Lewis pitched her second game of the day, and went seven innings, allowing five hits and seven earned runs while striking out two.

Mount Mary grabbed the game’s first lead in the top of the first, determining to avoid a replay of the last game, but failed to put away Maranatha.

The Crusaders tied it in the second on an error by the shortstop, and then pulled ahead in the third on a groundout RBI by Boogher, that scored Thompson.

The Blue Angels reclaimed the lead in the third on a single RBI up the middle that scored two runs, and the home team carried a 5-3 lead entering the fifth inning.

Maranatha again jumped ahead of Mount Mary, this time scoring three runs in the fifth, starting with a single RBI by Sam Swiatek (Walled Lake, MI).

A four-run fifth inning by Mount Mary seemed to seal the fate of Maranatha, sporting a 9-6 lead entering the top of the sixth, but Maranatha proved resilient in the sixth, as the inning started with a triple RBI by Boogher.

Swiatek tied the game, while Lewis delivered the winning run on an error, and the Crusaders improved to 2-1 against Mount Mary on the season.

Thompson and Boogher went 2-4 from the plate, and Swiatek and outfielder Kelli Fox (Matthews, N.C.) finished 2-3 and 2-4.
