MILWAUKEE, WI – A day after the wrestling team took on Hannibal-LaGrange at home, the Crusaders followed up by traveling to Milwaukee, to face 10 other opponents, at the MSOE Invitational on Saturday.
Starting off in the 141 weight-class, freshman Zachary Zimmerman (Trevor, WI) advanced past the first round on a bye where he would face stiff resistance in Juan Diaz (Lakeland), who pinned Zimmerman at three minutes.
Zimmerman took a defeat by fall in his other match against Hunter Mulock (UW-Oshkosh) while junior wrestler Ricky Warren (Watertown, WI), scored four points in his first match against William Byrd (Wheaton), who won an 11-4 decision in the 149 weight-class.
Warren was pinned at 2:22 in his other match against Mike O’Connor out of Central. Oliver Klein (Alexandria, VA), wrestling in the 157 class, took a pair of losses by fall, against Andrew Harrell (Wheaton) and Adam Woitalla (St. Olaf).
Junior wrestler Jesse Gjefle (Ontario, WI), was perhaps the best Maranatha wrestler on Saturday, losing by just two points in an 11-9 decision at the hands of Alex Dean (Central). Gjefle would also suffer a fall defeat later, while John Walton (Fayetteville, N.C.) posted an impressive 17-8 major decision win over Zequn Li (St. Olaf).
Maranatha travels to Naperville, IL, on Saturday, December 14 at 9:00 a.m. for the North Central College Invitational.
