Dr. Clater Teaching Theory

Prior to graduation each year, Maranatha’s senior music majors take the ETS Major Field Exam in Music as a measure of their learning during their years at Maranatha.  A sampling of other state and Christian universities taking this exam include Mississippi, Tulsa, Evansville, Kent State, Clearwater Christian, Cornerstone, Liberty, Northwestern, and Wheaton. The department began administering this standardized exam in 1999 to help better evaluate the program. Indeed, based on past results, the department has made at times substantial changes in order to strengthen the course offerings.  This year, we are pleased that the students again scored well on the exam, with a 90th percentile ranking overall, and with subtest percentiles of 85th for listening comprehension, 93rd for written theory, and 83rd for written history. The average overall ranking for the past three years is the 93rd percentile. We praise the Lord for these students and for His blessing upon their diligent work!
