WATERTOWN, Wis. – The Muskies waded through a tied first half, before pulling away late to win 60-54 on Thursday night.
Junior guard Hallie Nelson’s layup at 12:14 gave the Crusaders a 20-12 advantage as the Crusaders found open lanes to the basket and played solid defense.
The Muskies fought through the current though, by closing the half on a 14-6 run to tie the game at 26 apiece.
They soon overtook the Crusaders for the lead, who went bankrupt from three-point land, going 0-15 in the game.
It was the defense that kept Maranatha in the game, with sophomore center Laci Peterson (Chillicothe, Ill.) blocking four shots in the second half.
Peterson’s last shot drew the Crusaders to a 60-54 deficit, but the score would stay, giving Maranatha loss number nine.
Peterson finished with 16 points, seven rebounds and six blocked shots while junior forward Torey DeLozier (Watertown, Wis.) finished with 10 points and 16 rebounds.
The Crusaders host the Falcons of Concordia Wisconsin on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
