MEQUON, Wis. – After multiple game postponements this week, the baseball team was back in action against the Marian Sabres on Friday evening, losing 25-9 and 25-0 at Concordia Wisconsin’s Kapco Field in Mequon, Wis.
Marian’s offense exploded in the second inning for 15 runs on nine hits, but Maranatha pieced together their own big inning with seven runs in the sixth inning on six hits.
Sophomore Caleb Rost (Greenville, S.C.) was a perfect 4-4 from the plate with two RBI’s while senior first baseman Tim Shelp (Independence, Mo.) was 2-3 as the team finished with 10 hits.
Senior pitcher Derek Funkhouser (Paris, Ill.) pitched six innings for the loss, allowing 11 earned runs.
Freshman pitcher Jacob Bauer (Milwaukee, Wis.) held the Sabres to three runs in three innings in game two, but nine, and seven runs in the fourth and sixth innings turned the tide, as the Sabres finished with 18 hits.
Bauer pitched four innings for the loss, allowing nine earned runs off 10 hits.
The Crusaders are back in action Saturday afternoon against Concordia Wisconsin in Mequon, Wis. at 12:00 p.m.
