Mrs. Ruth Hey of Sterling, Illinois, loved music and served the Lord teaching, directing choirs, singing and composing. Six of her grandchildren attended Maranatha, and she gave the college its first concert grand piano prior to her death on August 9, 1976. Mrs. Hey was also instrumental in starting Faith Baptist Christian School of Sterling. The purpose of the Ruth E. V. Hey Memorial Scholarship is to assist Maranatha students preparing to serve the Lord in sacred music. The scholarship is available to a music major entering his/her junior or senior year, with a concentration in Church Music or Piano Pedagogy. The student must be studying piano, have a minimum GPA of 3.0, and be active in Christian service through a local church.
