MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Crusaders bounced back from a rough 9-1 outing in game one to defeat Wisconsin Lutheran 5-1 in game two on Saturday afternoon.

Maranatha went up 1-0 and held the lead until Wisconsin Lutheran tallied four runs in the third inning and three runs in the fourth to effectively put the game out of reach.

The Crusaders committed six errors in the game and managed just three hits. Juniors Autumn Peotter (Waupaca, Wis.) and Sadie Joutras (Crest Hill, Ill.) each went 1-2. Peotter’s torrid start to the season currently has her perched atop the NAC in batting average (.471).

Freshman pitcher Jana Dempsey (Bath, Mich.) dropped to 2-3, allowing six hits and five earned runs with two strikeouts.

A big five-run fifth inning in the second game proved to be the difference maker as junior Susie Prusak’s (Leesburg, Va.) RBI double ignited the attack.

The Warriors outhit Maranatha 11-4 in the game, but it was the Crusader’s defense that held strong when called upon.

Joutras was clutch for Maranatha, going 2-3 at the plate and driving in an RBI.

Sophomore Rachel Ryan (Nampa, Idaho) pitched a complete game, allowing one earned run on 11 hits.

The Crusaders square off against North Central University on Monday, April 2 at 3:00 p.m. at Brandt Quirk Field in Watertown.
