Spalding Posts 2-1 Win Over ‘Saders

WATERTOWN, Wis. – Maranatha faced Spalding College on a balmy Thursday afternoon, losing 2-1 to drop to 2-3 on the season.

Spalding scored first on a goal by Katie Ballard at the 11 minute mark, but it was freshman Harmony Lorch (Aurora, Colo.) who evened the score on a turnaround shot that sailed over the outstretched arms of the goalkeeper.

Maranatha and Spalding exchanged shots to open the second half, but Maddie Tonini scored the go-ahead and eventual winning goal at 62 minutes.

The Crusaders finished with six shots, with three on net. Lorch and senior midfielder Allison Steinhaus (Winston Salem, N.C.) each had two shots apiece.

Freshman net minder Michala Marino (Grand Blanc, Mich.) started the second half for the second game in a row, allowing one goal and saving two shots.

Junior goalkeeper Ginny Martin (Huntingdon, Pa.) finished with five saves, allowing one goal to drop to 2-3 on the season.

The women’s soccer team faces Alverno College at home on Saturday, September 15 at 2:00 p.m.
