Spartans Blank Crusaders

Rosa LewisAURORA, Ill. – The #1 team in the conference, Aurora Spartans and the Maranatha Crusaders squared off on Saturday afternoon, with the Spartans snagging wins of 8-0, and 18-0.

The Spartans outhit the Crusaders 15-1 in game one, scoring three in the first inning and two in the second.

Senior outfielder Autumn Peotter (Waupaca, Wis.) had the team’s only hit, going 1-2 from the plate while freshman pitcher Hannah Clement (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) pitched five innings, allowing seven earned runs for the loss.

In game two, the Crusaders were victims of an offensive explosion, from the top team in the conference, that included 18 runs, nine coming in the second inning.

Maranatha advanced to third in the fifth before ending the inning on a popup. Senior third baseman Susie Prusak (Leesburg, Va.) and sophomore pitcher Jana Dempsey (Bath, Mich.) each went 1-2.

Dempsey pitched five innings for the loss, striking out two.

Maranatha looks to have their first home game of the season on Monday at 5:00 p.m. in Watertown.
