Starting Squad Earns NCCAAII Region Honors

NIU-13_2711-Peterson-2WATERTOWN, Wis. – All five starters for the women’s basketball team were recently given NCCAAII Midwest Region honors after securing the Region crown and the #1 seed in the National Tournament on March 7-9.

Maranatha capped a successful run through the NCCAAII Midwest Region Tournament with All-Region and Honorable Mention Awards for junior Laci Peterson and seniors Torey DeLozier, Hallie Sheley, Autumn Peotter and Kristin Morrison.

Peterson had the most total votes (41) and was named the Region Player of the Year after averaging 11.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.89 blocks per game this season.

Peotter, a key force during the tournament, was the next Crusader with the most votes (30) and averaged 14.5 points per game, including a 20-point, 11-steal performance in the semifinals against Grace Bible.

DeLozier and Sheley snagged the other two All-Region selections for Maranatha while Morrison was named Honorable Mention.

The NCCAAII selects 10 individuals for the All-Region Team and nominates the top-five out of 10 for All-American at the National Tournament. Both Peotter and Peterson received two of the top-five votes this year.
