CEDARVILLE, Ohio – Maranatha runners William O’Malley (Rockford, Ill.) and Lauren Stephens (Chicago, Ill.) cruised to a 1st and 2nd place finish respectively on Saturday in the NCCAA National Tournament at Cedarville, Ohio.
The men’s team placed second while the ladies finished fifth.
O’Malley ran a time of 27:52.12 in the 8,000 meter race, and was 10 seconds faster than the second place winner, Isaac Wilson of Manhattan Christian to claim the title.
Stephens clocked in at 21:05.72 in the 5,000 meter race, leaving a gap of over a minute before the third place winner crossed the finish line. Stephens reserved her best performance for the biggest race and was awarded second place, setting both personal and season records in the process.
Freshman runner Michael Kluver placed 11th with a time of 30:10.63 while Jeremy McPhillips (Georgetown, Ill.) set a season and personal record time of 30:21.27 while placing 13th.
On the women’s side, Cari Cook, Jessica Garrison personal and season record times of 25:02.11 and 25:14.22 while Helen Trumble raced to a season record time of 27:48.36. Sophomore runner Cici Liu (Watertown, Wis.) posted a 14th place finish and a time of 23:22.12.
