WATERTOWN, Wis. – Maranatha and Lakeland took a 1-1 tie into the second period before sophomore forward Taylor Thompson (Bristol, Wis.) delivered a much-needed win on Tuesday night.
Both teams were evenly matched in the shot column with Lakeland recording 18 to Maranatha’s 15 shots, but the Crusaders’ shots on goal (10-6) was the deciding factor.
Senior midfielder Jocelyn Enrique (Anohoca, Hawaii) scored her seventh goal of the season on an assist by freshman forward Olivia Doerstling (Lantana, Texas) at the 12 minute mark, giving Maranatha a 1-0 lead.
The game slowed down for the next 10 minutes before Lakeland answered on a goal by sophomore forward Krystina Cook (Des Plaines, Ill.), and the teams stood pat headed into halftime.
Maranatha opened the second half with several shots on goal, before Thompson’s game-winner, and third goal of the season, came at the 65 minute mark.
Thompson, along with freshman midfielder Harmony Lorch (Aurora, Colo.), had solid performances, each with three shots on goal.
Freshman goalkeeper Michala Marino (Grand Blanc, Mich.) recorded five saves in 90 minutes to improve to 2-7.
The team improved to 3-6 in the NAC with the win and 5-9 overall.
Maranatha hosts Concordia-Chicago on Friday, October 12 at 1:30 p.m. in Watertown.
