Philip Ledgerwood (’15) graduated with a degree in Violin Performance and received the 2015 “Outstanding Musician Award” upon graduating. He is currently pursuing a Master of Music degree in Violin Performance at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, studying under Professor Sally O’Reilly.
This summer, Philip was privileged to attend the Pienza Music Festival in Pienza, Italy. The Pienza Music Festival is a prestigious festival limited each year to twenty violinists/violists who desire to focus exclusively on solo performance.
In describing the festival, Philip states: “The program provides an intensive, two-week course focused on performance, featuring private lessons, daily master classes, and public recitals. I received multiple lessons from a variety of international faculty members, performed in a masterclass for Daniele Pascoletti (the concertmaster for the La Scala Opera orchestra in Milan), and performed in two recitals. And even if there were many hours spent practicing in one of the most beautiful locations in Italy, there was always time for a little break for gelato!”
Philip expresses his gratitude for his education received at MBU. “I’m very thankful for the instruction and support I received from the music faculty at MBU,” he says. “Every teacher took a personal interest in me as a student and as a person, [pushing] me to strive for excellence in not only music, but also in all areas of life.”
