MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors defeated the Maranatha softball team by scores of 8-0, and 9-0 in a game, originally scheduled to be played in Watertown, that was relocated to the visiting team’s field.

The Warriors tallied four runs in the second inning after a scoreless first and added three more runs in the fourth inning on three hits while limiting the Crusaders to two hits on a gusty Saturday afternoon.

Freshman second baseman Emily Boogher (York, Pa.) did reach third in the second inning and sophomore Jana Dempsey (Bath, Mich.) picked up a base-hit in the fifth in a pinch-hit appearance, but was stranded at second.

Dempsey, and freshman pitcher Hannah Clement finished with a hit apiece, and the freshman out of Murfreesboro, Tenn. pitched five innings, allowing seven earned runs while striking out two.

The Crusader defense held Wisconsin Lutheran at bay in game two, allowing two runs in the first two innings.

Dempsey, pitching in her fourth game of the season, got the Warriors to line out into a double-play and ended the inning with a groundout.

Dempsey pitched the full seven innings, striking out three, and allowing six earned runs for the loss.

The team struggled to generate offense with two hits, both from Boogher, but nearly had an opportunity in the sixth when senior left fielder Autumn Peotter (Waupaca, Wis.) reached third base.

The team travels to Fond du lac, Wis. on Monday, April 4 at 3:00 p.m. to take on the Marian Sabres.
