Warriors Down Crusaders

Box Score

WATERTOWN, Wis. – In the midst of turnovers and fouls, the Warriors emerged the victor, downing the Crusaders 86-75 on Friday night.

Wisconsin Lutheran bolted out to a 10-2 lead in the opening minutes, but junior forward Joel Borchardt’s (Watertown, Wis.) tip-in reduced the score to 14-9.

Freshman guard Tanner Moses (Lodi, Wis.) stepped up his game with nine points and two steals but received a bloody nose to force him out of the game. He would later return in the second half.

After trailing by 11 points, freshman guard Caleb Burch (Eau Claire, Wis.) had two crucial layups to inch the Crusaders to a 59-54 deficit.

Any momentum was disrupted after that point as the Crusaders’ Borchardt, forward Kyle Kutz (Cambridge, Wis.) and Matt Hunter (Pontiac, Ill.) went to the bench with four fouls apiece.

Foul trouble and turnovers continued to prevent the Crusaders from finding any rhythm, as the Warriors ran away with the victory.

Borchardt finished with 13 points, six rebounds and three steals while Burch had a standout performance with 21 points.

“I was really disappointed with the way we started the game after a good week of practice. We had it down to two or three possessions in the second half and then turned the ball over. We are still searching for our rhythm,” Coach Ring stated.

The Crusaders will play a tough Kuyper team at home on Friday, January 6 at 7:15 p.m.
