WATERTOWN, WI—The Maranatha women’s soccer team defeated Rockford College 5-0 Monday afternoon to achieve their seventh victory of the season. With the win, the Crusaders notched their fourth home victory, and are still unbeaten on Maranatha’s field.

After a sluggish opening thirty minutes of play, freshman forward Natasha Vinz (Cheboygan, MI) was able to dribble in the Crusader’s first goal off a cross that was mishandled by Regent goalkeeper Alyssa Nicholson (Braidwood, IL).

The Regent defense would hold strong for the remainder of the half, however, anchored by the freshman goalkeeper Nicholson with six first half saves.

The Crusaders proved to be too much for the Rockford defense to handle in the second half, however, as sophomore midfielder Harmony Lorch (Aurora, CO) was able to break free and finish on a well-struck shot just a minute and a half into the second period.

Freshman midfielder Courtney Dunn (Oshkosh, WI) would score twenty-three minutes later, off of a beautiful free kick play that was assisted by sophomore Olivia Doerstling (Lantana, TX).

Maranatha would record two more goals before the match concluded, credited to Vinz and Dunn respectively in a span of less than five minutes.

Sophomore goalkeeper Michala Marino registered her thirteenth start of the year, turning away just one shot on goal to record her third shutout of the season.

With two goals in the match, Natasha Vinz increases her season tally to fifteen in thirteen games played, while Dunn bumped her mark up to three goals on the season in thirteen games played.

Maranatha has just two regular season games left on the schedule, and will face the Buccaneers of Beloit College in Beloit, WI, this Thursday at 4 p.m.
