LINCOLN, IL – It was a long day for the Lincoln Red Lions, who were victim to a barrage that came in the form of 40 shots, and 11 goals by the Maranatha women’s soccer team.

Assistant coach Emily (Kutz) Lawson stated, “We dominated the possession of the game and were able to make quick passes throughout the day.”

Natascha Vinz (Cheboygan, WI) was the team’s leading scorer, with four goals and one assist, scoring in the first two minutes off a corner kick from sophomore forward Olivia Doerstling (Lantana, TX), followed up by a header from Doerstling again.

Vinz would score the team’s first three goals in 21 minutes, while freshman forward Bethany Wright (Watertown, WI), and sophomore forwards Chantelle Schween (Allentown, PA) and Marwa Omot (Austin, MN) each scored two goals. Wright would score the team’s last goal.

Maranatha peppered the Lincoln goalkeeper with 40 shots, 13 on goal, and came away with a 7-0 halftime lead. Every player started, and sophomore goalkeeper Michala Marino (Grand Blanc, MI), who finished with the win for a 1-1 record, spent some time in the field as freshman Emily Hinsenkamp (Harrison TWP, MI), played the last 10 minutes in net.

Coach Board and the Crusaders are excited about a 2:00 p.m. matchup against Central College next Saturday, September 14.
