Do you feel called into a ministry position? Whether you think that God wants you to be a pastor, missionary, or counselor, Maranatha has some great ministry majors that can equip you for whatever vocation you choose. Maranatha’s passion is to enable leaders for full-time service and ministries in their local church. That’s why Maranatha offers a Bible and Church Ministries scholarship. This scholarship is intended to encourage and support leaders as they start their journeys of ministry and service.

Scholarship Details

This scholarship is Maranatha’s largest institutional scholarship. The scholarship has the potential to be worth $20,000 (up to $5,000 a year). This scholarship is awarded based on the student’s ministry intentions, current ministry involvement, and academic abilities.

Requirements

Like any scholarship, there are some requirements that must be met before you apply. Let’s look at them here:

  • You must apply for the scholarship before you become a student at MBU. This is not something you can apply for after you settle into the dorm. Be sure to do this the summer before your freshman year.
  • Your major must be one in the College of Bible and Church Ministries department. This one is self-explanatory. If you aren’t planning to have a Bible major, then you cannot apply for a Bible scholarship.
  • You must be a new student at MBU. You could keep this scholarship throughout your four years, but you must be sure to apply for it as a new student.
  • You must be taking at least twelve credits at MBU. If you plan to take classes from other schools, those credits won’t count here.
  • You must live in a residence hall at MBU. Living in the dorms may seem like a daunting idea, that is why this scholarship was founded. If you want to apply for this scholarship, you must embrace dorm life.
  • You must complete your FASFA no later than thirty days after the start of the semester. The scholarship can be approved before you fill out the FASFA, but it will not be applied to your account until the FASFA is complete.

How to keep your scholarship

GPA is one of the most important things when it comes to your education, not just concerning a scholarship. You’ll want to work hard in your classes in order to keep your GPA well above what is required.

  • Freshmen must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher at the end of each semester in order to keep the scholarship.
  • Sophomores must have a cumulative GPA of 2.25 or higher at the end of each semester.
  • Juniors and Seniors must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher at the end of each semester.

You will want to be sure that you keep your scholarship. A few things that might cause you to forfeit your scholarship are:

  • You move out of the dorms. Like it says in the requirements, you must live in the dorms in order to be eligible for this scholarship. If you move out, you keep the scholarship for the rest of the semester, and then it will be removed.
  • You have more than 125 demerits. If you get this many demerits, you will lose your scholarship even if you meet the standard requirements.

There are a few other things that you should know about the scholarship. One is that there are a limited amount of these scholarships given out every year, so even though you apply, there’s not a guarantee you’ll get one. Another thing to remember is that if you lose your eligibility, you forfeit the scholarship.

As you start your ministry career, consider applying for the Bible and Church Ministries scholarship. Your time at MBU with be vital to your future ministry and prepare you for the days ahead. This scholarship will hopefully aid you in your college career.
