Institutional Scholarship: Teacher Education

Our world needs good teachers, and even more than that, it needs Christian teachers. All kinds of people have benefited from a teacher in their lives.

If you’ve decided on a major in the education department, that’s great! While Maranatha offers many scholarships, this one is offered to those specifically in the education department. This scholarship will be a great tool in helping you get your degree, learn how to be a good teacher, and impact other people as you go through your life. Let’s look at some of the details of this scholarship.

Details

This scholarship is rewarded based on the self-evaluation of students describing why they have chosen a teacher education major, what they plan to do with their major, their ministries, and their grades. This scholarship has the potential to be worth $14,000 (up to $3,500 a year).

Requirements for this scholarship

  • You must be a new student. Even though there is potential for this scholarship to benefit you all four years, you must be sure to apply as a freshman/new student.
  • You must apply for this scholarship before you come to campus. This isn’t a last-minute scholarship option, so be sure to put this on your summer to-do list before college.
  • You must have a major in the school of education. This is pretty self-explanatory. If you aren’t planning to become a teacher, you can’t apply for a Teacher Education scholarship.
  • You must be taking at least twelve credits at MBU. If you plan to take credits from other colleges, those won’t count towards this requirement.
  • You must live in a residence hall at MBU. Even though we love our off-campus students, they are not eligible for this scholarship. You must embrace dorm life if you would like to apply for this scholarship.
  • Complete your FASFA no later than thirty days after the start of the semester. This is something all students need to do, regardless of whether they’re applying for scholarships. I would highly recommend that you have a parent, or the financial aid office, help you out with this.

If you’re still reading this, it means that you meet the requirements. Yay! Let’s see how to keep your scholarship throughout your four years.

How to keep your scholarship

GPA is one of the most important things when it comes to your education, not just concerning a scholarship. You will want to work hard in your classes to keep your GPA well above what is required.

  • Freshmen must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher at the end of each semester to keep the scholarship.
  • Sophomores must have a cumulative GPA of 2.25 or higher at the end of each semester.
  • Juniors and Seniors must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher at the end of each semester.

You want to be sure that you keep this scholarship. A couple of things that would cause you to forfeit the scholarship are:

  • You move out of the dorms. Like it says in the requirements, students must be a resident of a dorm. If you decide to move out, the scholarship will stay for the rest of the semester and then be taken away.
  • You have more than 125 demerits. If you get this many demerits, you will lose this scholarship regardless of whether you meet the other requirements.

One important thing you should know is that after you forfeit this scholarship, you cannot get it back. Be careful in your behavior so that you can keep your scholarship. There is a limited amount of these scholarships awarded each year.

The scholarships that MBU offers are tools that help students become the best they can be while helping them with the financial burden. The world needs good teachers, teachers who can encourage the next generation. If you have chosen an education major, be sure to apply for the Teacher Education scholarship today.
