Exercise Science | New Opportunities for Influence
Do you have a passion for influencing others through athletics, fitness, health, and wellness? If so, the new Exercise Science degree from Maranatha Baptist University might be right for you. Take your first step on a career path in the health sciences.
Exercise Science Opportunity is Out There
It’s no secret that athletic and personal health and fitness is a huge aspect of American culture. We play and run from the time we are old enough to walk. As we grow, we channel that energy into sports and hobbies that improve our physical and mental health. And the trend isn’t slowing down.
However, trends aren’t the only factors contributing to healthcare opportunities. An aging population and overall greater demand for healthcare services are also in the mix. According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, “Employment of healthcare occupations is projected to grow 14 percent from 2018 to 2028.”
Additionally, awareness of personal health and fitness and athletic participation has driven up demand for athletic training jobs. And they’re popping up in every career field possible.
Universities want to improve the rehabilitation process for their athletes. Corporations want to improve the efficiency and wellness of their employees. Military and Special Forces units are looking to make their personnel faster, stronger, and therefore, safer on the job.
So, you’re ready to take advantage of these great opportunities in health science. But what path should you take from here?
Two Tracks to Success
When you major in exercise science, you get to choose between two tracks that allow you to focus in on your career goals.
Pre-Athletic Training Track
This track prepares you to purse a Master’s degree in a variety of areas including Athletic Training, Biomechanics, and Public Health. With these certifications, you can work with athletes at all levels on strength, conditioning, and injury rehabilitation.
Fitness Track
If graduate school isn’t in your future, the Fitness track is the choice for you. This program prepares you to jump into any entry-level fitness position. You could manage company and community wellness and exercise programs or run a fitness facility and become a personal trainer.
Program Components
Each program features diverse course requirements that develop your leadership capabilities along with your professional skills. You also get hands-on experience through practicums and internships at state-of-the-art facilities in Watertown and the surrounding areas.
No matter which path you choose, each program prepares you for the Certified Personal Trainer or Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist exams from the American College of Sports Medicine or National Strength and Conditioning Association.
Influence is Possible
Indeed, studying the human body and finding a career in such a fast-growing field is exciting. However, the greatest opportunity is the spiritual influence you can have on your clients.
Imagine this. You go to school to become an athletic trainer, and you get a job in a rehabilitation center, helping athletes return from sports injuries.
You soon realize injured knees, shoulders, or ankles is the least of their problems. The game they love has been taken away. In its place is pain and dependence on others to perform simple daily tasks. An athlete who was once so strong and independent is now weak and helpless.
As an athletic trainer, you can help those athletes recover physically. But more importantly, you can show them Christ, the Source of spiritual healing.
The Exercise Science Degree from Maranatha Baptist University will equip you to become a leader in the health science profession and be a light for Christ in your field to anyone you meet.
