HERE'S HOW IT WORKS

1. What's the Rule?

2. How did become a rule?

3. Why does MBU care?

4. Will it always be a rule?

Chapel Attendance

1. What's the Rule?

  • Students must attend daily chapels held every Monday through Friday for the preaching of God's Word.

2. How did it become a rule?

  • From the founding day of Maranatha, chapel has been viewed as an integral part of the education process.

3. Why does MBU care?

  • The values of the university, the ethos of Baptist fundamentalism, the morality and spirituality of biblical Christianity, the student's development of a vibrant Christian life, and the identification of error and heresy are all topics of concern in the chapel program. Chapel attendance is more critical to the spiritual formation of a student than class attendance.

4. Will it always be a rule?

  • Since MBU identifies the Bible as the utmost authority in life, chapel attendance will always be a requirement.

Testimony Issues

1. What's the Rule?

  • Bible commands are considered the most important of all guidelines. Infractions of these standards negatively affect the testimony of God, ourselves, and MBU. Testimony infractions, or failure to report the commission of one, may result in disciplinary action.

2. How did it become a rule?

  • Maranatha believes that the Bible is the final authority for all matters of faith and practice. Bringing glory to God is our utmost purpose (1 Corinthians 10:31-33).

3. Why does MBU care?

  • Students, faculty, and staff are expected to keep themselves unspotted from the world... James 1:27. As a means of protecting the testimony of the Lord, the believer and the University, these commands must be followed at all times (including breaks, vacations, and holidays).

4. Will it always be a rule?

  • Yes, this reflects MBU's core values.

Dress Code

1. What's the Rule?

  • Students are required to comply with different levels of dress in order to be appropriate for the event.

2. How did it become a rule?

  • The minimum dress code standards are an outgrowth of our core value of bringing glory to God at all times. Dress is a reflection of one's character, and believers are admonished in 1 Timothy 4:12 to be examples in every area of life.

3. Why does MBU care?

  • Maranatha's dress code is guided by the principles of modesty, appropriateness, gender distinction, and preparation for leadership in the ministry/workforce.

4. Will it always be a rule?

  • The four guiding factors mentioned above will always influence the Dress Code; however, as our culture changes, MBU will remain conservatively relevant.
