Humanities Students Accepted into Graduate Programs

Abby Hoffman and Nathanael Price both recently graduated with Humanities degrees. Maranatha’s Humanities degree allows students to explore what it means to be a human made in the image of God. They develop strong skills in communication—including writing, research, and speech—and develop qualities, such as critical thinking, the ability to adapt quickly in a changing world, and a sense of ethical responsibility.

The MBU Humanities degree is thorough but also diverse for a variety of graduate and career options. Both Abby’s and Nathanael’s next steps involve graduate degrees.

Professional Licensed Counselor

Abby stumbled on a magazine advertising a Master of Arts in Clinical Counseling at Columbia International University while visiting the Cedarholm Library. With her desire to become a professional licensed counselor, Abby looked for a school that could prepare her accordingly. She also wanted a school that was smaller in size, an aspect of Maranatha that she appreciated. Columbia met those requirements.

Abby applied, interviewed with professors and other applicants, and then received an acceptance. She is excited to start her studies in Fall 2023.

Law School

During his time at MBU, Nathanael experienced many opportunities that eventually led him to consider a law degree. For Journalism with Mr. Huffstutler, he interviewed Jefferson County DA Monica Hall. In US Constitutional History with Dr. Licht, he read Supreme Court opinions and prepared arguments. In Business Law with Dr. Davis, he learned the connections of the law to everyday life.

From there, Nathanael started taking steps towards law school which included interviewing law students, taking the LSAT, meeting law school representatives, and applying to a variety of schools.

Nathanael shares, “Regent University was the first law school to give me an offer and they were eager to get me on campus. I had multiple phone calls with one of their deans.” He also said, “They loved my faith background. They want lawyers who are grounded in serving Christ first and foremost.”

Nathanael received other offers besides Regent’s full ride acceptance. He decided to go to Regent University School of Law because it was a highly ranked law school and had a Christian focus.  He will begin Fall 2023.
