Do you desire to be a wise counselor? Are you in full-time ministry, or perhaps a different vocation, but want to be a more effective communicator of biblical counsel for those struggling with sin but don't have the time for a full degree? If so, consider the Maranatha Baptist Seminary's Graduate Certificate in Biblical Counseling. The 12 credit curriculum includes a Proverbs and Counseling class, several foundational counsleing classes, and several specific practical counclieing class. Some of the topics you will study are crisis counseling and addictive behavior, while at the same time learn to counsel from a Biblical foundation.
This Biblical Counseling graduate certificate is designed for a student who seeks graduate level biblical counseling education to prepare for a biblical counseling ministry in areas such as missionary service, youth work, campus work, or Bible teaching within the context of the local church.
Objective
· To articulate Biblical and systematic theology with scriptural support using a dispensational hermeneutical framework. • To exercise Biblical discernment in assessing cultural issues and behavioral norms. • To communicate God’s Word effectively in response to common counseling issues. • To evaluate dispositions of listening and relating to counselees for the purpose of leading them toward spiritual restoration and growth. • To demonstrate faithfulness in ministry at a Baptistic, separatist church.
Delivery
• This Graduate Certificate can be completed via Distance Learning. • Some of the core counseling courses are offered in the virtual/residential format while other of the required counseling courses are offered in the online format only. • The 12 credits of this program are spread out over a period of 2 part-time academic years.
Requirements
1) a minimum of 12 semester hours of approved credit must be completed for the Biblical Counseling graduate certificate. 2) ABachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree from an approved institution must be held by the applicant. 3) A grade point average of 3.0 or better must be earned. A maximum of two C grades will be credited toward graduation. 4) Applicants may be required to make up deficiencies without credit in any of the departments at the discretion of the Academic Senate. 5) If you are interested in certification, please choose the Masters in Biblical Counseling. The MABC will prepare you as you seek external certification with certain associations as a Biblical counselor whereas the graduate certificate in Biblical Counseling is just that - a gradualte level certificate; it does not give you certification in the field of Biblical Counseling.
