Dr. Kurtz and his wife, Brenda (Administrative Assistant for the Office of Human Resources at Maranatha) have two daughters, Sarah and Colette. Dr. Kurtz is an assistant pastor at Calvary Baptist Church in Watertown. He works with adult ministries, outreach, and worship ministries. Dr. Kurtz helped establish NewFocus, which offers help to people dealing with addictions.

Dr. Dean Kurtz has more than 30 years of experience in music teaching and ministry. He has traveled extensively teaching and preaching on worship and music. Dr. Kurtz authored the book Worship and Music in the Word: A Genesis to Revelation Study, published in 2009.
