2022 Outstanding Musician—Aleisha Beachell

The Maranatha Baptist University Department of Music is pleased to announce Aleisha Beachell as the 2022 Outstanding Senior Musician. The Outstanding Senior Musician award is given to the graduate whom the music faculty believes completely exhibits the qualities of the spirit of Maranatha through music. This student is selected on the basis of musicianship, academic merit, spiritual and character qualities, and Christian service.

Beachell was an active member in many facets of Maranatha’s Music Department. She was a member of the Madrigal Choir, Symphonic Band, and the 2021 Heritage Singers. In addition, Aleisha collaborated with many of her fellow music majors in their recitals, participated musically in chapel worship services, sang in Maranatha’s recording choir, and served as a student conductor for the Madrigal Choir. Aleisha spent her last semester student teaching at both Schurz Elementary School (Watertown) and Waterloo High School. Dr. David Ledgerwood, Music Department chair, has been impressed with Beachell’s hardworking spirit. He writes, “Aleisha’s work ethic, her innate musicianship, her well-rounded musical knowledge and experience coupled with a Christ-like humility and a desire to honor the Lord all serve to bring her to the forefront.”

“Aleisha is an outstanding musician. She combines a dedication to Christ with a passion for excellence in every musical endeavor,” adds Dr. David Brown. “In the classroom, she commands respect, while at the same time endearing herself to her students with her fun-loving approach to very task. She is a fantastic conductor, singer, and pianist, and she will be a tremendous asset to both her church and school in future ministry.”

Following graduation, Aleisha will be teaching music and directing junior high and high school choirs at Bethany Christian School in Troy, Michigan. Aleisha is well prepared for this position. Dr. David Handyside, acting chair of the Education Department writes, “Aleisha has a great personality and confidence for teaching music. She has strong music skills and knows how to communicate effectively in order for her students to learn. Aleisha has a ready smile and laugh but still gets down to business. Both adults and students find her to be someone who is a joy to be around and a godly servant leader.”
