Student Body Council 2018 Fall Premiere Event: The Amazing Race
On November 9, Maranatha’s Student Body Council proudly presented their 2018 fall premiere event, The Amazing Race.
The event served as a dorm vs. dorm battle to earn the winning prize of a 55″ Smart TV.
Based on the popular TV show, The Amazing Race, the night was structured around a variety of challenges that each dorm could complete. Nine challenge locations were stationed around campus and Watertown, and the participants solved clues to determine those challenge checkpoints.
The point system for this event proved to be anything but traditional. Rubber ducks were given point values and served as the prized possessions of the night. The rubber ducks were awarded to teams upon the completion of challenges.
To start off the night, all competitors gathered in the gym for instructions. The suspense and competitive spirits grew as the countdown began. When the clock hit zero, all teams scattered and raced to their first location. While all challenges were entertaining, some proved to be less than pleasant for the participants. For example, gross drink combinations, push-ups, and food eating contests all required drive and perseverance from the challengers.
“The Student Body Council put together an event that not only entertained but also challenged the teamwork capabilities of the students,” says Melford participant, Phoebe Alexander.
When the clock struck 9:10, all competitors came flooding back into the gym to drop off their prized collection of ducks. Teams shared their war stories of the night as the council members counted ducks and tallied points. Student Body President, John Zockoll, listed off the placement of each dorm beginning with ninth place and working up to first place. The top three dorms were invited to the stage where Zockoll announced the winner of the 2018 premiere event, The Amazing Race.
Congratulations to Judson dorm on their victory and the 55″ Smart TV prize for their dorm to enjoy.
Kevin Burns, one of the winning competitors from Judson dorm says, “we left it all on the course that night. We all performed to our best and in the end, we got the result.”
