Purpose Statement
The university’s mission of developing leaders for ministry in the local church and the world “To the Praise of His Glory” guides not only how we act, but also how we use the facilities that God has so graciously provided. Although the facilities are not generally open to the public, outside uses will occasionally be approved for outside events deemed by the administration not to be inconsistent with MBU’s mission.
Facility use will not be permitted to persons or groups organized or operated for purposes in conflict with or whose proposed use conflicts with Maranatha’s guiding principles. MBU’s guiding principles are summarized in its Statement of Faith, Core Values, Commitment Statements, and various Positional Statements. In approving all requests, the MBU Executive Council shall determine, in its sole discretion, whether a proposed use conflicts with or distracts from the institutional mission as applied to all relevant facts and circumstances.
This restricted facility use policy is necessary for two important reasons. First, as a faith-based institution, Maranatha will not support activities or beliefs that are contrary to God’s Word. Second, the university’s facilities and its capacity to support extraneous activities and events are limited. In order to maintain a singular focus, the university preserves its facilities for activities and programs that directly support its mission.
This policy applies to all Maranatha-owned facilities as set apart to be used in a way that glorifies God and supports the Godly leadership training program of the institution. (Col. 3:17, 1 Cor. 10:31)
Approved Users & Priority of Use
The Executive Office must approve all uses of Maranatha facilities. Generally, priority shall be given to students, employees, and alumni, their immediate families, partnering churches, and organized groups that are a part of the program, or sponsored activities of the university. Maranatha facilities and equipment will be made available to outside groups meeting the following qualifications:
- Groups or persons requesting facility use must affirm that they do not advance or advocate beliefs or practices that conflict with Maranatha’s mission or beliefs, and that planned uses of the facilities are consistent with Maranatha’s mission, beliefs, and practices.
- The group or person seeking facility use must submit a signed “Maranatha Facility Reservation Request and Agreement” form.
- The group or person seeking facility use must be willing to take responsibility for the facilities and equipment used and must agree to abide by the university’s rules of conduct for facility use, as stated below and as described in any additional instructions by Maranatha employees.
Scheduling Events
Facility use requests shall be made by submitting the “Maranatha Facility Reservation Request and Agreement” form. The event will be reserved and placed on the calendar only when the Executive Council approves the use.
Fees
Use of Maranatha facilities is subject to use and maintenance fees. These fees are set by the Executive Council and subject to change with or without notice. In some cases, a security deposit may be required prior to the proposed use. The VP for Business Affairs will communicate cost expectations to applicants upon acceptance of a proposed use.
Facility Use Guidelines
- Drinking of alcoholic beverages, using illegal drugs, and smoking are prohibited on the campus of Maranatha Baptist University.
- Groups are restricted to only those areas of the facility that the group has reserved.
- Maranatha equipment, such as tables and chairs, must be returned to original placement, unless arranged otherwise prior to the event.
- Groups are responsible for clean-up and returning the facilities to pre-use conditions. In some cases, a clean-up fee will be assessed as standard practice. In other cases, the group may be responsible for clean-up itself. Expectations will be communicated upon acceptance of the proposed use.
- Abusive or foul language and violent behavior is strictly prohibited on Maranatha property. Any person exhibiting such behavior will be required to leave the premises.
- Any person or group must sign the “Maranatha Facility Reservation Request and Agreement” form prior to reservation of university facilities.
Insurance/Liability
For non-Maranatha-sponsored events, outside groups may be required by the VP of Business Affairs to provide proof of liability insurance coverage covering the proposed use naming MBU as an additional insured. The university does not assume personal liability for any of the individual participants of the organization, for accidents, personal injury, or loss of life. Further, Maranatha Baptist University and its agents do not assume responsibility for any lost, stolen, or damaged property of guests of the group. The user must also sign the “Waiver of Liability and Hold Harmless Agreement,” and return this agreement to the Vice President for Business Affairs before the event or as otherwise specified.
