S01E08 | Christin Kieckhafer & David Ledgerwood
April 12, 2022
Meet Mrs. Christin Kieckhafer, MBU alumna, musician, composer, instructor, wife, mother, and this episode’s first guest. She explains her mission in words adopted from her pastor—all for the audience of One—a simple, yet complex motto. While happily engaged as a public-school choral director, she faced a test of its authenticity when she gave birth to a daughter with spina bifida and hydrocephalus. Recognizing that “faith is an exercise,” she illustrates how challenges, altered plans, and humility produced maturity in her life.
Dr. David Ledgerwood, Chair of Maranatha’s Music Department, is focused on discernment of what is good, continually pursuing ways to improve. He discusses a plethora of musical topics: the role of music, how to teach musical discernment, what music communicates, cultural differences musically, church music in Colonial America, and how composers and arrangers develop signature sounds. He reveals his latest projects and then concludes with a tribute to his predecessor, Dr. Monty Budahl.
