S01E10 | Dr. Daniel Berger

April 26, 2022

This podcast features only one guest, Dr. Daniel Berger, founder and director of Alethia International Ministries and director of Faith Biblical Counseling Center. Newly appointed to pastoral staff, he realized his undergraduate studies had not given him the answers he needed for the people he counseled. Intending to gain understanding for himself, he never imaged God would expand his research into lifelong ministry. This interview explores a profusion of topics within the fields of psychology and counseling, and you will probably want to listen to it more than once to gain its full benefits.

Dr. Berger mentions a quote by Jerome Frank that was pivotal in his investigation: Psychology is the only science that creates the diseases it treats. He and host Dr. Matt Davis examine the inadequacies of secular psychology, noting that, if there is an “abnormal,” as secularists propose, then there must be an antithetical “normal,” something that is counter to evolutionary theory. They explore phenomenology; the history of Kraepelinian theory on which the American model is based; and the undeniable connection between mind, spirit, and body. Dr. Berger repeatedly explains the true solution in the one true Gospel of Christ, not just for salvation, but for sanctification, emphasizing our need to accept the sovereignty of God and to submit to it, developing a “game-changing” relationship with Him. For more in-depth analysis, Dr. Berger has written 14 books, among which are The Insanity of Madness and The Chemical Imbalance Delusion.
