S02E01 | Jeff Pill

June 14, 2022

In this episode, Coach Jeff Pill, Director of Soccer Operations and Associate Professor at MBU, shares his mission motivation—the burden of stewardship. He and host Dr. Matt Davis detail how principles of preparation and processes in athletics also apply to work, worship, and life in general. One aspect of athletics which Coach Pill enjoys is its candid disclosure of preparation or lack thereof, and he defines excellence as doing the best with the talents one has been given—another vehicle for glorifying God. Coach explains outcome versus process orientation, how character is built and revealed, irrefutable results of the yo-yo test, and the primary goal of coaches to make themselves redundant. Last, he provides the history of something unique to MBU soccer teams—their singing—a tradition that bonds the teams, a tradition alumni players cherish.
