S03E04 | Professors Immanuvel & Nyak

November 1, 2022

In this episode recorded in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India, host Dr. Matt Davis interviews two faculty members of Heritage Baptist Bible College & Seminary. First, Immanuvel recounts his unusual childhood. His mother, though nominally Catholic, engaged in witchcraft as a teen and “lost her mind.” Seeking to protect her and themselves, her family locked her in a room. His aunt’s family succumbed to depression and financial hardship and plotted family-wide suicide. However, the Lord intervened, not only in their salvation, but successively for Immanuvel’s mother as well. Chronicling spiritual deterrents and near-death experiences, Immanuvel reveals his protracted reception of Christ.

Like Immanuvel, Nyak’s family was also engaged in Hindu-related witchcraft. Nyak’s grandfather and father worshipped the goddess Kali. Allegedly through a dream, Kali demanded his father to sacrifice his eldest son, something he intended to obey until a man from their village told him about a God who gives life rather than takes it. Nyak readily traces the humbling work of Scripture in his heart to defeat his ambitions of favor and fortune, to turn his fearlessness to dismay in recognition of his destitute sinful state, and to direct him to ministry for the right motivation—God’s glory.
