Gingery and Cucunato Recital Highlights

Maranatha Baptist University’s Music Department is grateful to have hosted two guest artists known for excellence in their craft. Dr. Phil Gingery and Louis Cucunato are not strangers to Maranatha or to our exquisite Burckart Hall. However, each time they return, they provide the audience with an unparalleled musical performance in their areas of expertise.

Dr. Phil Gingery

Dr. Gingery is a thirty-year music veteran with many roles. He is currently the assistant pastor and minister of music at Bible Baptist Church and West Chester Christian School. He has also taught hymnology, theory, music history, voice, and conducting at various colleges and universities.

Gingery’s recital was entitled “Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs,” and featured songs with texts from Scripture. Written by composers such as Felix Mendelssohn, Johann Sebastian Bach, and George Frideric Handel, Gingery’s selections are from some of the greats.

As in recent years, Dr. Gingery was accompanied by his sister, Christa Gingery Habegger. Here is an excerpt from their performance.

Louis Cucunato

Louis Cucunato, a musician from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, teaches classical guitar to MBU students. Cucunato began playing guitar at age thirteen and graduated from UW-Milwaukee with a B.F.A. in Classical Guitar Performance and earned his MA from Indiana University, Jacobs School of Music.

In his recital, Cucunato performed a range of repertoire written by composers dating back to the 1800’s through modern day music. Enjoy this selection from his performance below.
