The Maranatha Symphonic Band, under the direction of Dr. David Brown, is a group of approximately forty that performs a broad selection of band literature, including sacred and secular classics.

The band performs at campus events and several chapels for the entire Maranatha community, including patriotic Religious Liberty Day chapel, a popular Christmas chapel, and a worshipful and moving Good Friday Chapel in the spring. The band also tours, performing 12-15 concerts in schools and churches across the nation each year.

The Band has three separate recordings available for purchase at the Maranatha Bookstore.

• Tidings of Comfort, Tidings of Joy, a two-disc Christmas CD including works by the symphonic band and the percussion ensemble.
• An American Salute, an inspiring collection of sacred and patriotic band works.
• Resurrection!, a musical reflection on the events of the passion week.

Each fall, the band looks forward to bringing churches a sacred and classical program in the evenings and some “fun stuff” for Christian school students during the day.

Dr. Brown said that when the symphonic band goes on tour, the children and teenagers at the churches they visit will never be the same. “They’ll never forget it,” he said. “It will leave an impact.”

But the impact will not just be felt by young people in the churches and schools; Brown said tour is life-changing for the college students, as well. If there is one take-away he would like band members to bring back with them, it’s that there is joy in ministry.

“I just want them to get excited about the difference they can make,” he said.

Brown said the band was what drew him to teach at Maranatha in the first place. He said the band had come to his church, and he watched the band members. He was impressed with how they conducted themselves, how they were such servants. “I didn’t even know there was a place like this on the planet,” he said. “I thought, ‘Where is this Maranatha? Someday, somehow, I have to get to this place.’”
