New Humanities Faculty Member | Welcome Stephen Robertson

Maranatha Baptist University (MBU) is pleased to have Stephen Robertson join the Humanities faculty.

Robertson holds an M. A. in Theater Arts from Eastern Michigan University and a B. A. in English from Tennessee Temple University. His years of teaching high school English, speech, and drama, and directing community theatre, fine arts competitions, and church dramas have given him valuable experience that will enable him to lead Maranatha’s theater program.

Robertson and his wife, Melissa, have five children: Grace, Valorie, Jeremy, Elliot, and Reggie. They currently reside in Ypsilanti, Michigan, where Robertson is a manager at ProQuest.

Robertson was raised in a Christian home but wasn’t saved until later in life. He and his wife are involved in the adult Sunday School ministry and Junior Church at their local church of 25 years. Since 1992, Robertson’s master’s thesis project, A Christian Christmas Carol, has been performed in a variety of settings.

“Over the years, I have trained scores of teens for dramatic ministry for missions trips to Belgium, England, Germany, Hungary, Brazil, Peru, and the Philippines,” Robertson shares. “I have written, directed, and staged a wide variety of presentations including full-length plays, dinner theaters, cantata narrations, and multimedia productions.”

“I feel that it is a great privilege for me to work with Christian young people who are preparing to spend their life in service to the Lord—whether as pastors, missionaries, nurses, teachers, scientists, lawyers, musicians, or an array of other occupations,” Robertson continues. “I pray that I can positively impact their life and fine-tune their communication skills so that they represent our Lord with excellent speech filled with sound words of grace and truth. I also look forward to working with a splendid assortment of godly teachers, administration, and staff.”

Dr. William Licht, Vice President for Academic Affairs, believes that Robertson’s addition to the MBU faculty will be a great blessing. “Steve embodies the Maranatha ethos of servant-leadership and ministry focus. His biblical worldview combined with his practical drama experience fits MBU perfectly.”

Robertson will be assuming his responsibilities as Humanities faculty in the fall of 2021.
