What to Expect for Society Showcase and Rush

The university is comprised of 10 societies, 5 girl societies and 5 guy societies. Each society comes together on Fridays for group activities, sometimes food, and always fellowship through God’s Word. While in your society, you will have opportunities to participate in intramural sports and attend society-run events. Everything your society does culminates into points for the title of “Society of the Year.” Society of the Year 2020: Raptors

Showcase Chapel is an opportunity for you to visit each society and understand what their mission is, what events they have planned, and whether you can see yourself joining them.

So, what should you look for?

All the societies have their own reputation and “vibe.” These are the type of things that you cannot describe to someone who has not been to a society chapel before. One of the main goals of showcase chapel is to allow you to see the societies in action for yourself.

We encourage each society to run events and to get involved in ministry. Ask them what events they have done in the past and what new things they have planned for this year. Most likely, they will present all the fun things they have planned, but they are excited for your input into future chapels or ministries.

Talk to the other girls or guys in the society and get to know what they love about their society. One of the best ways to know what society you want to join is by taking the effort to find as much information as possible. Having each society “pitch” to you can be overwhelming, but don’t shy away from asking questions and just enjoying the atmosphere.

Pro Tip: do not just join a society because your friend is joining that society.

Societies are great opportunities for you to meet new people and enjoy new experiences. You will get out of society what you are willing to put in, so go all in!

I know which society that I want to join, so now what?

Society Rush. That one word can bring many ideas to your mind, some of the excitement and some of worry or dread. Luckily, you don’t have to be worried. The point of Society Rush is to create a fun and exhilarating way for you to be initiated into your society.

Hopefully, by now you have a pretty good idea of which society you want to join. If you don’t, you don’t need to be worried because you really cannot go wrong with any of the societies.

I recommend that you have a few options in your mind and be ready to take action! You will be running to the table on a first come first serve basis. This is not the time to stand around. Just go with your first instinct and have fun!

Society Showcase and Rush are not meant to scare you. The goal is to provide you with opportunities to get to know new people and enjoy coming together as a group for times of games and community.

Pro Tip: you probably want to wear your running shoes!
