Overview | Church Ministries: Biblical Counseling (Men)

If you could see yourself offering hope to hurting individuals through God’s word, consider Maranatha’s Bible & Church Ministries degree in Biblical Counseling. This degree program offers you an invaluable introduction to counseling skills and a solid theological base to teach right living, rebuke wrongdoing, correct wrong thinking, and train others in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16).

 

Program Outcomes

  • Students will demonstrate the ability to explain and apply biblical concepts related to spiritual growth, human problems, and strategies for change.
  • Students will demonstrate dispositions of listening and relating to counselees for the purpose of leading them towards spiritual restoration and growth.
  • Students will demonstrate the ability to identify and describe best practices related to pastoral ministry and church administration.
  • Students will demonstrate the ability to explain the Baptist distinctives in the context of Baptist history.
  • Students will demonstrate the ability to articulate biblical doctrine in a systematic fashion.
  • Students will demonstrate the ability to communicate and apply biblical truth accurately and effectively in preaching, teaching, and writing.
  • Students will demonstrate servant leadership behaviors in ministry settings.

Alumni Spotlight

Melodie (Bloyer) Lee (’19)
Melodie (Bloyer) Lee (’19) serves with her husband in a ministry to evangelize unreached people groups by providing Bibles and gospel literature. Melodie graduated with a Biblical Counseling degree and says MBU prepared her to seek God’s Word for truth and teach others that truth. “MBU showed me that God’s Word has answers to life’s problems—no matter how big or trivial. My confidence in God and the Bible were encouraged. I am not afraid to go to God with hard questions and know that He will give me answers.”

Eric (‘10) and Nadine (Flack ‘12) Hall live in Williamsburg, VA. Eric graduated with a BA in Youth Ministry. Nadine graduated with a degree in Biblical Counseling. Eric currently serves as Assistant Pastor at Faith Baptist Church where he works with the youth and oversees the administration. Nadine is a stay-at-home mom, homeschooling their three children. Nadine said, My counseling degree (as well as my early childhood minor) have been well-used in my daily life as a homeschool mom, as well as being able to teach and disciple the teen girls that God has brought into my life.”
