BDE Commander and CSM Visit to Maranatha Baptist University

On the 9th of March 2016 the BDE Commander and the Command Sergeant Major traveled to Maranatha Baptist University to impart their advice and wisdom to the cadets of Charlie Company. Colonel Morgado, the BDE Commander, was extremely friendly and open when it came to answering questions for the cadets. One of the questions asked was by “Timothy Matzke” “How can we prepare ourselves when we first become 2LT’s?”
Colonel Morgado gave four important keys to success for every 2LT. First, a 2LT must make decisions. Sometimes these decisions will be right and sometimes these decision will be wrong. However, a 2LT must be comfortable with making decisions. Second, a 2LT must take initiative. Sometimes the decisions that a 2LT makes will be the incorrect decision. Nevertheless, a 2LT needs to know how to own up to his/her mistakes and take the appropriate corrective action to fix their mistakes. Third, a 2LT must know how to communicate. Your ability to communicate comes from experience, and experience can be an effective teacher, especially for a 2LT. Last, a 2LT must possess personal courage. This goes for every individual that decides to join the military. An individual must possess personal courage. This will enable them to step out of their comfort zone. These four keys to success would behoove every future and current 2LT to learn and apply to their army careers.
The Command Sergeant Major had words of wisdom to impart on the cadets of Charlie Company as well. The CSM made two key points. First, for those who will be joining the army, “Are you coming in with the right attitude and focus?” and second, “Set the precedent that we are a team.”
Charlie Company extends their gratitude to the BDE Commander and the Command Sergeant Major for taking the time and to answer questions of the cadets of Charlie Company.
