Alumni of the Year

2022 – Doug Stein

This year, the Alumni Association honored the Alumnus of the Year: Pastor Doug Stein.

The Lord led Doug to Maranatha in the fall of 1975. He graduated with a bachelor’s in Pastoral Studies in 1979 and then an MA in Biblical Studies in 2008. Doug has served in full-time ministry as an assistant or associate pastor for 42 years in four churches. He served for over ten years at Calvary Baptist of Watertown with Pastor Bob Loggans. Upon reflection, Pastor Loggans commented,  Doug has exemplified what it means to be a genuine servant, often taking the second role, but doing so with grace, integrity, and excellence. Doug Stein is what Maranatha is all about!”

After his time at Calvary, Pastor Stein returned to Grace Baptist Church in Anderson, IN, where he has served for over 20 years. He currently serves as the administrative pastor. Alumna Abby (Thomas) Huthmaker, who attended Grace Baptist Church before coming to MBU says, “Pastor Doug Stein has served the Lord unconditionally in full-time ministry for many years. He has sacrificed his time, effort, and energy for his local church as well as his community.”

His other ministries included participating in missions projects, serving as pulpit supply for local churches, and serving in his community. Doug is a policeman and fire chaplain. He recently retired as deputy chief after 30 years of being a volunteer fireman and EMT. He also serves in various roles within the Fire Rescue Leadership.

Doug and Karen have been married for 44 years. They have four kids: Bethany, Rachel, Caleb, and Josh, who all attended MBU and they have also been blessed with 9 grandchildren!

Thank you, Doug, for your faithfulness to Christ and His church and your commitment to the ministry of Maranatha.
