Music degree students are required three years of on-campus residency. Students interested in this plan should contact the chair of the Department of Music, Dr. David Ledgerwood (David.Ledgerwood@mbu.edu). Students wanting to complete a music degree in three years must do the following:

• complete the performance assessment packet as soon as possible (we highly recommend completing the packet before you begin the process),
• be at level or higher for your degree in your music performing skills,
• be in a performance group every semester; however, for two semesters you must be in two performance groups because you are required to have eight semesters of performance group experience (percussion ensemble in the Fall semester counts as a second performing group),
• take two semesters of private lessons from an approved, university-level instructor during the two summers of your residential experience,
• complete two semesters of student teaching during the summer months,
• complete two semesters of repertoire class requirements during the two summers of your residential experience,
• take 20th Century Music via Maranatha online if the rotation is such that you must do so (Harmony 1-4 must be completed before taking the course),
• plan out your six semesters before your first residential semester (be in close contact with the music academic advisor),
• realize that courses in your major are generally much more demanding than general core courses,
• plan to do much more homework than four-year residential students, and
• understand that majors taking a pedagogy concentration are strongly advised to take a business minor.
